Hotel review

There are three good reasons to stay here. First: The hotel is handily located close to the San Stae vaporetto stop and is therefore very easy to find which is a definite bonus in the maze-like Venetian streets. Secondly: Walter and Stefano who own it, and the staff they employ, are terrific. It is absolutely ‘service with a smile’ here which creates a family friendly atmosphere. And thirdly: There is a courtyard garden which is tranquil and cool – a joy for summer and pretty to look out onto during the bleaker off-season months. There are 15 rooms, split across two family properties spanning two sides of a canal. The bedrooms are not particularly plush, but they are very typically Venetian with a lot of upholstered surfaces in richly coloured fabrics and ornate furnishings. Whilst not contemporary, this decor sets the scene for being in ‘real’ Venice. Excellent spacious and spotless bathrooms (also a boon in Venice). A real mix of old and young come and stay here which is entertaining, and being slightly off the main tourist drag there are some excellent authentic bars and restaurants close at hand. The ground floor bedroom and bathroom is equipped for disabled access (again, unusual in Venice) and there is a service door opening directly onto the canal for private water taxis.
